Exxon Mobil commences Alaska drilling

EXXON Mobil has announced it has commenced drilling at Point Thomson in Alaska.

Drilling operations were launched at the end of last week at the oil and gas field.

In the past, the company experienced friction with the state of Alaska over the lack of progress on Alaskan leases.

In 2002, Exxon had promised to drill wells and begin producing oil within four years, but no drilling had occurred until now.

Alaska officials tried to cancel the leases, but in January allowed Exxon to drill on two leases.
