CSIRO podcast educates explorers on natural drilling alternatives

THE CSIRO this week released a podcast educating exploration companies on the ‘natural’ drilling alternative.

The CSIRO podcast features Dr Ravinder Anand, the organisation’s Exploration and Mining scientist, explaining how termites, trees and kangaroo droppings can direct drillers towards the presence of precious metals beneath the earth.

The podcast also describes how spiders and ants may soon be added to the stable of creatures capable of indicating the presence of mineral ores in the ground.

The CSIRO has been working with Adelaide University and Geoscience Australia to determine more cost effective and environmentally friendly ways of locating gold, nickel, copper, zinc, lead and uranium.
